Sokoto Govt Urges Residents To Protect Public Projects

The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has appealed to residents to safeguard various developmental projects executed by the government across the state.

The Governor made this call at the commissioning of the Kirare Izala Jumu’at Mosque in Goronyo Local Government Area.

He reminded the people that improper handling of public projects by benefiting communities could lead to a waste of resources, noting that such projects are funded with taxpayers’ money.

“We need to guard all the projects executed by the state government jealously so they can last longer,” he said.

Governor Aliyu further urged every community to establish a local committee responsible for the regular monitoring and protection of projects within their areas.

Speaking on the newly constructed Kirare Izala Jumu’at Mosque, the Governor called on worshippers to ensure its proper maintenance and to observe their five daily prayers in the mosque.

He also assured that, within the current fiscal year, the administration would place greater emphasis on the construction and renovation of Islamiyya schools and cemeteries across the state.

The Governor called on residents to continue supporting the present administration in its efforts to transform Sokoto State.

Also speaking, the Deputy Governor, Idris Muhammed Gobir, commended the Governor for constructing an Islamiyya school within the mosque premises, stressing that knowledge is essential to every Muslim community.

He urged communities to ensure their children attend both Islamic and Western schools so they can become useful members of society.

Similarly, the Minister of State for Works, Barr. Bello Goronyo noted that Kirare village once hosted some disciples of the 19th-century Islamic reformer, Sheikh Usmanu Danfodiyo.

He praised the Governor for providing both a mosque and an Islamiyya school in the community.

The Minister further stated that the Federal Government is intensifying efforts to ensure the timely completion of various road projects in the region and called for continued public support.

In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaid, commended the Governor for promoting Islamic affairs through the construction of mosques, Islamiyya schools, and support for Muslim preachers.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Jabir Sani Mai Hulla, disclosed that over 33 newly constructed and remodelled mosques have so far been commissioned across the state, adding that more mosques would soon be commissioned.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Goronyo Local Government Area, Zubairu Yari Goronyo, thanked the Governor for constructing a road leading to Kirare village, noting that it would significantly improve the living conditions of the surrounding communities.

The Deputy Governor later commissioned the Kirare Izala Jumu’at Mosque.

Governor Aliyu, alongside APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and other dignitaries, observed the two raka’at Jumu’at congregational prayer at the mosque.

Special prayers were offered for Allah’s blessings and continued guidance for the Governor Ahmed Aliyu-led administration.
