Tuggar Advocates Unity, Minority Protection In Gov’ship Bid

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, a governorship aspirant and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has called for unity and inclusive governance, stressing the need to protect minority communities and build a shared future.

Tuggar made the call during his declaration speech held at the Games Village in Bauchi on Saturday, where he emphasised that leadership must transcend political interests to address social inequalities and promote cohesion.

“Leadership must reflect fairness and inclusion. We must create opportunities for everyone, regardless of background,” he said.

The former minister expressed concern over the underrepresentation of women and marginalised groups, promising to introduce targeted policies that would enhance their participation in governance.

He also outlined his vision for economic growth and social stability, noting that sustainable development requires collaboration across all sectors of society.

Urging citizens to support leaders with integrity and clear vision, Tuggar maintained that the future of the state depends on collective commitment and responsible leadership.

In his remarks, the Director-General of the Tuggar Foundation, Uba Nana, commended the aspirant for responding to calls by the people of Bauchi to contest for the state’s top seat.

Also speaking, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, who was represented by the party’s Zonal Vice Chairman (Central), Ibrahim Sama’ila Ilali, praised Tuggar’s loyalty and commitment to party ideals.

He urged other aspirants to follow due process by adhering to party structures and guidelines in pursuing their political ambitions.

The party leadership further called on supporters to register and renew their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections and to support the party at all levels.

On his part, the Senator representing Bauchi North, Sama’ila Kaila Dahuwa, speaking on behalf of the APC caucus, pledged the support of National Assembly members across the 20 local government areas of the state.

He described Tuggar’s decision to step down from his ministerial position as a significant sacrifice aimed at serving the people of Bauchi State.

Political observers believe that Tuggar’s entry into the governorship race under the APC could reshape the political landscape of the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
