Dan’iya Mourns 17 Killed In Tureta Bandit Attack

Calls for Urgent Security Action

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, Walin Sokoto, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent bandit attack in Dan Gulbi Village, Tureta Local Government Area, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 17 people.

Hon. Dan’iya described the incident as tragic, heartbreaking, and a painful reminder of the persistent security challenges confronting communities across Sokoto State and other parts of Nigeria.

In a statement issued through his Press Secretary/Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, the ADC gubernatorial candidate extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the people of Tureta Local Government Area, and the government and people of Sokoto State.

According to him, “Every life lost to insecurity is a tragedy for our nation. No family should have to endure the pain of losing loved ones to violent attacks.

The protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and must be pursued with utmost commitment and urgency.”

Hon. Dan’iya noted with concern reports that some of the victims were travellers who had returned home to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festivities with their families, describing the incident as particularly painful given the significance of the season.

He stressed that the recurring attacks on communities across the state require a more coordinated, proactive, and sustainable security response involving federal, state, and local stakeholders.

“The continued loss of innocent lives underscores the need for renewed commitment, stronger security coordination, improved intelligence gathering, community engagement, and adequate support for security agencies.

The APC government at the centre and in the state has failed to fulfil its promises. Our people deserve to live, work, and travel without fear,” he stated.

The ADC candidate called on all levels of government to intensify efforts aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, youth vulnerability, and the proliferation of criminal networks.

He further urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the attack are apprehended and brought to justice, while measures are put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Hon. Dan’iya recalled previous commitments by authorities to confront insecurity and emphasised the need for continuous evaluation of security strategies to ensure effective results and improved safety for citizens.

“Security must remain at the heart of governance. Development cannot thrive where communities live under constant threat. Our people deserve peace, stability, and confidence in the institutions responsible for their protection,” he added.

The ADC gubernatorial candidate also reiterated his commitment to prioritising security if elected in 2027, pledging to work closely with relevant authorities, traditional institutions, community leaders, and security agencies to strengthen local security architecture and support initiatives capable of addressing insecurity from its roots.

He called on citizens to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security agencies, and continue providing credible information that can assist efforts to safeguard communities.

Hon. Dan’iya prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings, grant them Aljannatul Firdaus, and comfort their families during this difficult period.

“The people of Sokoto are resilient. Together, through unity, responsible leadership, and collective action, we can overcome these challenges and build a safer and more prosperous future for all,” he said
