The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has received encomiums for his outstanding policing strategies that have helped in combatting crimes and criminal activities in the state.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Bridge Head Division, Onitsha, CSP Uche Noah Onyinnaya, gave the commendation in Onitsha, in his welcome address on the occasion of the familiarisation visit of the Area Commander of Onitsha Area Command, ACP Fesugba Temitope, to the division.
The DPO praised the CP for his “ruggedness” on the current crime prevention strategies which he put in place to safeguard the lives and property of residents of Anambra State.
He also commended the Area Commander of Onitsha Area Command, ACP Fesugba Temitope, for his noticeable efforts in redefining intelligence surveillance in the area command; adding that the peaceful atmosphere noticeable in Onitsha in particular and Anambra State in general is a result of “rugged policing strategies” introduced by the Anambra Police Commissioner, CP Orutugu.
The DPO assured that the division, on its part, shall never relent in accomplishing the CP’s security operation to the fullest. He also assured of loyalty, dedication, discipline and unwavering commitment of men and officers of the command to the vision and mission of the Nigerian police force.
He told the area commander that the division is currently facing operational challenges such as inadequate patrol vehicles, insufficient communication gadgets and limited office accommodations.
CSP Onyinnaya noted that despite operational and logistical challenges, the officers and men of the division remained committed, dedicated and resolute in discharging their duties; adding that the crime rate in the area is relatively low owing to effective use of available manpower, commitment to duties and sustainable collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders.
In his own speech, the area commander eulogised the DPO and his men for maintaining peace and calmness in the area despite logistical challenges. He also commended other security agencies, the PCRC, market leaders, and the general public for their support so far for the division.
While acknowledging that many people have lost confidence in police due to unwholesome behaviours of some officers, the area commander assured that the Anambra CP is strongly rebuilding confidence in the general public through peculiar policing strategies. He also urged members of the public to collaborate with the police in ensuring that confidence is well established.
The Area Commander also urged the general public to give timely information to the police to enable them to do their work successfully, saying that police cannot do the work of securing lives and property alone.
The ceremony was attended by the chairman of PCRC in the division, Dr Frank Chika Udemmadu; chairman of Onitsha Building Materials Market, Bridge Head, Onitsha, Chief Chikodinaka Victor Ejiofor; Director of Operations, ATMA, Mr Chetuya Benjamin Chibuzor; Manager of Polaris Bank in Onitsha, Mr Teju Salami; chairman of Bridge Head Estate, Fegge, Onitsha, Mr Egbuna Obiora; among many other critical stakeholders and the police community.
