President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recorded a decisive victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary held across Bayelsa State on May 23, emerging with an overwhelming majority of votes in the exercise.
The results were announced by the State Collation and Returning Officer after collation from all eight local government areas.
He stated that the primary was conducted peacefully across wards in the state, with active participation from party members.
According to the results, Tinubu dominated the polls across the local governments. In Brass, he secured 39,454 votes, while his challenger failed to record any votes. In Ekeremor, he polled 45,949 votes, also with no opposition votes recorded.
Kolokuma/Opokuma delivered 22,593 votes for Tinubu, while Nembe returned 32,487 votes in his favour. In Ogbia, he secured 24,896 votes, maintaining a clean sweep.
Sagbama recorded 46,283 votes for the President, while Southern Ijaw posted one of the highest totals with 74,136 votes. In Yenagoa, Tinubu polled 30,834 votes, while his opponent managed only 5 votes.
At the end of the collation, Tinubu amassed a total of 277,192 votes across Bayelsa State, while his sole challenger recorded just 5 votes.
Declaring the result, the State Returning Officer affirmed that the figures represented the accurate and official collation of votes from all local government areas, adding that the process was peaceful and conducted in line with party guidelines.
Party officials and stakeholders commended the orderly conduct of members during the exercise, describing the process as smooth and largely dispute-free.
The outcome further highlights Tinubu’s strong political influence within the APC structure in Bayelsa State, where he secured overwhelming support across all councils.
With the Bayelsa exercise concluded, attention is now expected to shift to the national collation centre, where results from across the federation will be aggregated for the final outcome of the party’s presidential primary.
Stakeholders have also called for unity among party members, urging all aspirants and supporters to rally behind the eventual party flagbearer ahead of the general elections.
