The Sokoto State Government on Saturday said Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has provided more than 200 vehicles for security agencies in the last three years.
The State Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, made this known while commenting on the administration’s three-year achievements.
He said the donation was part of efforts by Governor Aliyu Sokoto to ensure the protection of lives and property across the 23 Local government areas of the state.
Alhaji Ibrahim further said the people-centred administration had also provided all necessary logistics support to bolster the efforts of security agencies in the fight against banditry and other crimes.
To ensure community involvement in security, he added that the governor had established the Community Guards Corps to secure local communities and support security agencies.
According to him, the aim was to ensure that all that was needed to provide security across the state was routinely and adequately provided.
The commissioner said the governor has been implementing his 9-point agenda diligently, recording tremendous achievements across sectors.
“There has been massive construction, rehabilitation, and reconstruction of schools. The government has also built new schools and provided cash allocations to principals for minor repairs.
“We have seen what he has been doing in the rehabilitation and remodelling of mosques and Islamiyya schools, and in providing support to imams and muezzins, among others,” he said.
The governor has supported vulnerable people, including orphans, youths, and women, through skills empowerment programmes in tailoring, knitting, welding, vulcanising, soap making, and other trades.
The aim is to make beneficiaries self-reliant and economically productive, thereby ensuring the sustainability of economic activities in the state.
He also highlighted giant strides in addressing perennial water scarcity in Sokoto metropolis, as well as infrastructure renewal through road construction and installation of streetlights.
“Under agriculture, we have seen what he has been doing through the provision of fertilisers, chemicals, and improved seeds to farmers free of charge to ensure sustainable food production in the state,” he said.
According to him, several areas have been touched through the rehabilitation and construction of urban and rural roads across communities, and through scholarship support for students studying within and outside the country.
“The government is for the people, by the people, and of the people. It has the people at heart. We need our people, we want to provide for them, we want to support them, and we want to ensure that our people are as comfortable as possible.”
