…Promises To End Insecurity, Hunger
Major General Ijoma Nwokoro Ijoma, rtd, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Abia State, with a promise to provide a better alternative to the present administration in the areas of security, food security, transparency and accountability.
Speaking after he was adopted as the consensus candidate of the party, at the Uzuakoli Road secretariat, Umuahia, the retired army general declared that he was in a better position to secure the State with an invisible security fence, having fought in different theatres of war including international peacekeeping operations and within the country.
According to him, what he saw in the faces of Abia residents is hunger and anger in spite of the huge allocations coming to the State, even as he alleged that the State earned N1.5 trillion in the last three years with nothing to show for it.
“Rather, the governor was busy spending the state’s resources on frivolous birthdays in which he allegedly splashes N15 million on each celebrant, while the people are hungry and angry.
He said his manifesto is anchored on the rule of law, justice and equity and assured that the Abia people would get justice if he becomes the governor in 2027.
“When my manifesto is implemented, Abia will be first among equals. I have come to solve the hunger and remove the anger in Abia State. If Otti were working as reported, the hunger and anger would not be there.
“It’s only in Abia State that people will clap that N28 billion was spent to build the Omenuko bridge and N46 billion on Port Harcourt Road. I’m a much better alternative than the present government.
“If I become governor, you will not hear about herdsmen. I will establish an invisible security fence; no incident will happen without my knowledge.”
He said it is not fair to compare the present government’s performance with the 24 wasteful years of the PDP, but with developments in states like Enugu and Imo, among others.
“I will not have a ministry of agriculture without producing food. I will establish three farms for food production in the three senatorial districts and the 17 LGAs and silos in Umuahia for strategic grain storage/reserve.”
The General said he counted 38 police and military checkpoints on his way to Abia State, where, in some cases, “our people are humiliated and extorted. This will not happen if I become governor.”
“I will build better roads. The total roads built by Otti are 131.8km. This government lacks empathy, accountability and transparency and it’s deceitful. That is why I do not take the mandate for granted.”
