Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and members of the State’s Executive Council have endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as a worthy successor ahead of the state’s next governorship race.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with the press at the State House, the Governor praised Hamzat’s track record, highlighting his integrity, loyalty, and commitment to service.
He stated that Hamzat has been fully prepared for leadership, adding that his deep understanding of governance and the workings of the state makes him exceptionally qualified for the role.
Sanwo-Olu further expressed personal pride in Hamzat’s decision to step forward, emphasising that he has proven himself capable from day one. He also acknowledged the role of party leadership in nurturing both himself and his deputy over the years.
Sanwo-Olu described the meeting as a “warm family engagement,” noting that discussions were extensive and consultations thorough.
According to him, there was a unanimous agreement among attendees that the Deputy Governor possesses the competence, experience, and leadership qualities required to govern Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu revealed that the endorsement followed a high-level consultative meeting attended by key political stakeholders, including members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), former senators, ministers, and other prominent leaders.
The Governor also called on Lagosians to give Hamzat the opportunity to lead, describing him as “a man built for the job” and well-positioned to take the state forward.
