Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Monday, held a high-level consultation meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan and prominent South-East leaders as part of ongoing engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi, who made this known in a statement issued via his X handle, said that the meeting focused on the future of Nigeria and the need for urgent reforms to address the country’s mounting challenges.
According to him, discussions during the visit were “frank and thoughtful,” centring on strategies to reposition the country towards unity, security, stability, productivity, and inclusive governance.
He said the consultations come at a critical time when Nigeria is grappling with economic hardship, rising insecurity, and increasing social divisions.
The economic expert stressed the importance of cross-regional collaboration among political leaders, adding that national interest must take precedence over personal ambitions.

Obi further emphasised the need for a shift in leadership approach, advocating for governance driven by competence, character, capacity, and compassion.
He noted that Nigeria must move away from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven system capable of harnessing the country’s human and natural resources for sustainable development.
“The 2027 elections must not just be seen as another political exercise, but as a critical opportunity to reset the trajectory of our country,” Obi said.
He added that the focus should be on improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians, including access to quality education, support for entrepreneurs, and ensuring security across the country.
Obi expressed optimism that through sustained dialogue and a shared commitment to national development, Nigeria could overcome its current challenges.
He reaffirmed his belief that the country’s future remains bright if leaders work together with sincerity and a clear sense of purpose.
The meeting is part of a broader series of consultations by key political actors as alignments and discussions intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
