Police Mourn Inspector Killed In Imo Road Accident, Launch Investigation


The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of an Inspector, Habila Mangai, who was killed in a road traffic accident while on duty in Imo State.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the incident occurred on April 18, 2026, along the Owerri–Okigwe Road when the officer was conducting a stop-and-search operation at Amaraku.

The police said the inspector, attached to the Isiala Mbano Division, was knocked down by a Mack truck driven by one Chisom Ajah.

He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

The police have confirmed the arrest of the truck driver alongside the vehicle and handed over to the State Motor Traffic Department for further investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed condolences to the family, colleagues, and the Imo State Police Command and assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
