In a move to tackle displacement and strengthen community resilience, the Bauchi State Government has inaugurated a Steering Committee for the implementation of the Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons and Host Communities (SOLID) Project.
The initiative, supported by the World Bank, is designed to improve the lives of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) while also supporting host communities affected by the crisis.
Inaugurating the committee on Wednesday at the Government House, Bauchi, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammad Auwal Jatau said the project would go beyond temporary relief by addressing the underlying causes of vulnerability and promoting long-term recovery.
He noted that the programme is focused on restoring dignity to displaced persons and ensuring they are reintegrated into society with access to sustainable livelihoods and essential services.
“This project is about people, men, women, and children who have lost homes and livelihoods. It is about giving them hope and a dignified path forward,” Jatau said.
He charged the committee to ensure that the benefits of the project are sustained even after its completion, urging members to embed its outcomes within government systems and policies.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to the success of the initiative and praised development partners for their support.
Also speaking, the State SOLID Project Coordinator, Abdulsamad Abubakar, said the committee would serve as a strategic platform for coordination, ensuring that all stakeholders work together effectively to deliver lasting impact.
