Patience Ozokwor- Infidelity Not Enough Reason To Leave

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has shared her thoughts on infidelity in marriage.

Speaking in a recent podcast interview with comedian Isbae U, Mama G urges women to handle such situations carefully, especially when children are involved.

The respected actress admitted how emotionally taxing it may be to discover a partner has cheated on you, adding that it is a very unpleasant and frequently disastrous experience for women.

She, however, warned against making rushed decisions that could have serious, long-term effects for both the woman and her children.

She said, “Leaving a marriage because of infidelity is never easy. Discovering a partner’s betrayal is deeply painful, especially when children are involved.

“For many women, the reality of single motherhood can be challenging, particularly where financial stability is uncertain, and some men withdraw from their responsibilities after separation.

“While infidelity is unacceptable to both men and women, decisions must be made with careful consideration of one’s circumstances.

“Faith teachings emphasise both forgiveness and the legitimacy of separation on grounds of infidelity, leaving individuals to weigh what is best for their situation,” she stated.

Speaking further, the actress also highlighted that decisions about separation should consider the children’s well-being and future.

“When children are involved, their security and future often come first, so I’d advise any woman in that situation to forgive and stay in the marriage.

‘Even in separation, coexisting for the sake of the children can be considered, provided there is no abuse or threat to life. Where there are no children, walking away may be easier,” she added.

The seasoned actress highlighted the absence of a formalised royalties system in addition to marital problems.

Mama G explained that senior Nollywood actors only receive one-time payments for their parts and no royalties, which is why many of them publicly ask for financial assistance when they are ill.

“Despite our years of hard work, the pay is often low, leaving us without long-term financial security. Unlike in developed countries, where actors earn royalties for life, in Nollywood, we struggle to cover expenses like medical bills because such structures are not in place.”
