President Bola Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent promise to serve only one term if elected president, saying such promise is unreliable.
Onanuga’s reaction follows Obi’s statement during a media interview in which he pledged to spend only four years in office for the sake of stability, insisting he would not extend his stay under any circumstance.
Responding, the presidential spokesman questioned Obi’s consistency, citing his political history as evidence that his promises cannot be trusted.

“If you believe Peter Obi’s promise to serve only one term as president, you’ll believe anything,” Onanuga said.
He recalled that Obi, while a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had publicly pledged loyalty to the party and vowed never to leave, including a declaration made in honour of the late party leader.
Onanuga, however, noted that Obi later defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arguing that the move contradicted his earlier commitment.
According to him, Obi has since moved across multiple political platforms, describing the former Anambra State governor as a “political rolling stone.”
He added that Obi’s track record raises doubts about the credibility of his current promise of a single-term presidency.
