The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday, formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Governor Makinde made this announcement on Wednesday during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid ongoing political realignments involving factions of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the next general elections.
“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he declared.

The governor had earlier led the Taminu Turaki faction of the PDP in Oyo State into a strategic alliance with the APM through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation ahead of the 2027 polls.
Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective parties.
Under the arrangement, candidates aligned with the PDP faction seeking elective offices, including governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly seats, are expected to contest under the APM platform rather than the PDP during the 2027 elections.
