MASSOB Congratulates Igbos Over Compliance With Biafran Day Anniversary

The Movement for the Actualization Of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has congratulated the Igbos over their compliance with the May 30 Biafran Day Anniversary.

Saturday Telegraph recalls that the organisation had announced prayers and a voluntary sit-at-home in remembrance of the 59 years since the declaration of the defunct Republic of Biafra.

The movement also called for prayers among the churches for the repose of the over 3 million Biafrans allegedly killed during the war.

In Anambra State, there was partial compliance to the sit-at-home order as shops were opened for business shortly after the end of the monthly environmental sanitation at around 10 .30 am.

At Onitsha, some shops were opened while others were shut in compliance with the order and there was no violence recorded.

According to the statement issued by the leader of the group, Comrade Uchenna Madu, “The leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) congratulated the great people of Biafra for observing today’s sit-at-home exercise in commemoration of the 59th anniversary declaration of Biafra by General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in 1967.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the people of Biafra for their unwavering commitment to honouring the memory of General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and the 59th anniversary declaration of Biafra.

“Your voluntary sit-at-home observance directed by MASSOB demonstrates your deep respect and remembrance of the sacrifices made for the Biafran cause.

“Your solidarity and unity today reaffirm our collective determination to honour our history and preserve our heritage”

MASSOB urged the churches and other faith-based organisations to devote themselves to prayers in memory of the victims of genocide across Igbo land.

“We reiterate our earlier and passionate call and directives to churches in Biafra land to observe memorial services, prayers and thanksgiving to God Almighty for keeping Biafra” he said.
