Lagos Govt Lauds Residents’ Compliance, Support


The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has commended Lahos residents for turning out in large numbers to clean their surroundings, clear drainage systems, and promote hygiene across communities on Saturday, 25 April 2026.

Wahab in a statement on his social media page noted that the successful reintroduction of the sanitation exercise reflects a renewed spirit of collective responsibility among residents, emphasizing that environmental cleanliness remains a shared duty between the government and citizens.

He also commended the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat for ensuring the initiative became a reality.

According to him, their administration has demonstrated strong commitment to improving public health and environmental sustainability.

Special recognition was given to the First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and the wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat, for leading sanitation activities at the commencement of the exercise.

Wahab further applauded local government chairmen across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas for driving grassroots participation, as well as transport unions for mobilizing their members in support of the exercise.

He stressed that the vision of a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos is achievable through continuous collaboration, urging residents to maintain the momentum.
