The Lagos State Government has secured the conviction of two individuals for indiscriminate dumping of refuse, as authorities intensify efforts to tackle environmental violations across the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a post shared on X on Tuesday.

According to the commissioner, the convicts, Ibrahim Kashua and Kareem Sodiq, were arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, on May 18, 2026, over illegal waste disposal.

Wahab stated that both defendants pleaded guilty to the offence and were subsequently sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.

“Two defendants were arraigned before the magistrate’s court sitting at Bolade Oshodi on 18th May, 2026, for indiscriminate dumping of refuse. They pleaded guilty and were convicted and sentenced to three months in prison,” the commissioner wrote.

The convictions come amid sustained enforcement efforts by the Lagos State Government against indiscriminate waste disposal and other environmental infractions.

The government had repeatedly warned residents against illegal refuse dumping, stressing that offenders risk fines of up to N250,000 or a three-month jail term upon conviction.

Authorities also revealed that more than 4,000 persons have so far been prosecuted across the state for environmental violations linked to improper waste disposal.
