Lagos Captures 79,000 Criminal Cases Through Digital Justice System

The Lagos State Government has said no fewer than 79,000 criminal cases have been captured through the Lagos State Criminal Information System (LSCIS) as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening justice delivery and improving transparency in the state’s criminal justice administration.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN), disclosed this during the ongoing Y2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.

Pedro described the LSCIS as a strategic digital platform designed to enhance criminal case tracking, data management and coordination among justice sector stakeholders across Lagos State.

According to him, the system has become instrumental in monitoring criminal cases from arrest to prosecution and correctional processes, thereby reducing delays and improving efficiency within the justice system.

The attorney-general also disclosed that the state government had transmitted a bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly seeking the repeal and re-enactment of the Lagos Tenancy Law to address emerging issues in landlord-tenant relationships and create a fair balance between both parties.

He said the proposed law would regulate tenancy agreements, agents’ activities and rent-related disputes while also protecting investors in the real estate sector.

Pedro further revealed that the Ministry of Justice had introduced reforms targeted at speeding up civil and criminal proceedings through improved case management systems and stricter timelines for the determination of cases.

On correctional reforms, he noted that hundreds of inmates had benefited from the governor’s prerogative of mercy, while community service and restorative justice initiatives were helping to decongest custodial centres across the state.

He added that the ministry had continued to intensify the fight against land grabbing, human trafficking and other criminal activities through special enforcement mechanisms and strategic collaborations with security agencies.

Pedro reaffirmed the commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to justice sector reforms, saying the government would continue leveraging technology and institutional reforms to ensure accessible and efficient justice delivery for residents of Lagos State.
