Joint Security Operations Storm Community As Death Toll Rises To 4

A combined team of the Nigerian Army, Anambra Police Command and the Agunechemba Security Squad on Monday stormed Ndiukwuenu Community in Orumba North Local Government Area, the scene of the attack on Chief Ben Nwankwo, the Chief of Staff (COS) to Governor Charles Soludo on Sunday.

Confirming the development, the Agunechemba Security Squad said that the perpetrators operate from Awka Capital City to unleash attacks on neighboring Towns with a white jeep in a guerrilla manner.

Currently, the number of those who were killed by the gunmen has been confirmed to be four persons; two policemen and two civilians who were in the company of the Chief of Staff.

The trio of the Councillor for Ndiukwuenu Ward, the President General and the Vice President have been drafted to join the combined team on a manhunt for the gunmen who killed two policemen and some civilians.

At Ndiukwuenu Community, security personnel took over major security flash points and bushes in a bid towards unmasking the hide outs of the assailants.

It was equally gathered that the gunmen may have erected another camp months after they were dislodged at Ufuma and neighboring Towns in the area.

It was also discovered that the natives and inhabitants of the area were aware of the operations of the gunmen in the area but were apprehensive of making disclosures to security operatives.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu on Monday carpeted the trio of the Councillor, President General and his Vice for allowing the miscreants to carry out the deadly activities without informing security operatives.

Orutugu charged them to work closely with the Rapid Response Squad of the Command towards fishing out the perpetrators.

Confirming the mode of operations of the gunmen the Publicity Secretary of Agunechemba Security Squad Mr Nweke Nweke told reporters that, “We have kept an eye on those criminals and we can state that they are not residents in the area but come from Awka Capital to operate in a manner that looks like a guerrilla manner and then run back to Awka.

“This is because our outfit has taken over the Capital City hence they find it difficult to carry out their evil attacks so they visit the neighboring Towns close to the Capital.

“Already we are working as a joint patrol team along with other sister security operatives to nip the crime in the bud and we have made progress in the area of intelligence gathering an indication that we are close to apprehending the criminals.”

Nweke also stated that the assistance of members of the public and residents of those flash points has provided leading information to that effect.

Similarly in a statement by the Commissioner for Information Dr Law Mefor the culprits will not go unpunished as according to him, the government is on top of the operations.

“This was more than an attack on one person. It was an attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of our state, as well as the Government and people of Anambra.

“Sadly, four people lost their lives and deserve justice.

“The Anambra State Government sends its deepest condolences to the families of those who died and shares in their grief.

“The police and other security agencies are working to find and to bring everyone involved in this evil act to justice.

“This isolated incident after more than one year of peace and security in the state will not affect our determination to remove all forms of crime from Anàmbra state,” Mefor noted.
