Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has assured the people of his senatorial district, Yobe East of quality and effective representation if elected into the Senate in 2027.
Governor Buni gave this assurance on Saturday in Abuja after appearing before the screening committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the party’s senatorial primary election.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the exercise, the Yobe State governor described the screening process as fair, transparent and thorough.
“It’s very fair and thorough. It is okay. It has gone very well and I’m happy with it,” he said.
On the possibility of consensus and political arrangements within his senatorial district ahead of the primary, the governor said he remains committed to the democratic process and would abide by decisions of the party.
“Well, whichever way, because I’m a party man and I’m used to it and that’s the beauty of democracy. I’m open to all options,” he stated.
Buni, who is seeking transition from the Yobe State Government House to the Senate, said his constituents should expect nothing short of excellent performance and impactful representation.
“Performance. Since I have put myself forward to represent them, of course I have to represent them well. I’ve never been found wanting in all the positions that I occupied, from the party to the government. So this too will not be different,” he added.
Governor Buni is regarded as one of the most experienced political figures within the APC, having served in several strategic positions both in government and in the ruling party.
Before becoming governor in 2019, he served as the National Secretary of the APC and was also the Chairman of the party in Yobe State. He later emerged as Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, where he successfully piloted the affairs of the party during a critical transition period.
As governor, Buni has been credited with investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and security in Yobe State.
It is believed that his vast experience in governance and party administration could position him as a strong voice in the National Assembly if elected to represent his senatorial district.
