Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Saturday formally declared his intention to seek a fifth term representing Zaria Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria, Abbas said his decision was based on a track record of projects and legislation that constituents could verify.
“Today, I formally declare my intention to seek another mandate to represent the good people of Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives,” he said.
“This declaration is not based on promises alone. It is based on work, results, and a record that our people can see and verify.” Abbas, who joined the House in 2011, said he had sponsored 74 bills before becoming speaker, with 21 signed into law.
He listed constituency interventions including the distribution of 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles, and 1,000 motorcycles to transport operators, youth groups, and community leaders. He also cited financial support for 2,400 small business owners and farmers, and agricultural inputs provided to boost food production.
On education, he said he facilitated the N80 billion Education City project in Zaria and supported 30,000 students through a N5 billion scholarship programme. He added that several schools had been rehabilitated and new institutions established.
In healthcare, Abbas said primary health centres had been built across the constituency, and a 100-bed specialist hospital was commissioned last week with support from President Bola Tinubu. He also pointed to road, bridge, and rural access projects aimed at linking previously neglected communities to economic opportunities.
