The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq wanted in a case of alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of office, as well as diversion of public funds.
A public notice signed by the Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, urged anyone with useful information on the former minister’s whereabouts, to contact the Commission’s offices in Abuja, Ibadan, Kaduna among others. The anti-graft agency confirmed the development to Sunday Telegraph.
An insider sources, who spoke with this platform, said the commission’s decision may be a fallout of an order of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) High Court for the arrest of the accused person over her alleged failure to appear before it for arraignment.
Sometime in April, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie, was said to have issued a bench warrant after the EFCC had informed the court that Umar-Farouq allegedly failed to attend proceedings, a mandatory requirement in criminal matters.
“In view of the failure of the defendants to appear before this court for their arraignment, the application of the prosecution is hereby granted”, the Judge was quoted to have ruled.
