The Federal Government has unveiled a National Textbook Ranking System for Primary, Junior Secondary and Senior Secondary schools nationwide, as part of moves to improve quality control and standardisation in the education sector.
The policy aims to tackle the increasing number of textbooks in circulation and ensure that only materials that meet approved curriculum and quality standards were used in classrooms.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, in a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Press, Boriowo Folashade.
According to the ministers, the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) would retain its legal mandate to approve textbooks for schools across the country.
