Political activities have intensified in Edo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama declaring their intention to join the Edo South Senatorial race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ize-Iyamu formally received his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on Friday, May 1, which were reportedly purchased by his associates.
Announcing his decision to join the senatorial race, Ize-Iyamu has described the gesture as a strong indication of support for his ambition, expressing gratitude to his supporters and pledging commitment to the race.
“They told me the decision for me to go to the Senate was not mine alone. They put resources together to buy the form and presented it to me. It is not something to be taken for granted.”

“Your support is not just rhetoric; you have demonstrated it with action. I will not take this for granted,” he said.
The former governorship candidate also dismissed rumours suggesting he had withdrawn from the contest, insisting the claims were false.
“Why will people go to that extent? I have not withdrawn and, by the grace of God, I will not withdraw.”
On his part, Ogbeide-Ihama, while engaging party leaders in Oredo Ward 2, said his legislative experience positions him strongly for the Senate.
“I am the most experienced among the aspirants. What happens in the green chamber is similar to what happens in the red chamber, and my experience gives me an edge.”
He also opposed calls for zoning the senatorial seat, warning that such arrangements could deepen divisions within the district.
Meanwhile, former Edo State Attorney General, Samson Osagie, said stakeholders had resolved to support Ize-Iyamu, citing his political experience and track record.
He noted that Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Ize-Iyamu’s base, is yet to produce a senator for the district, adding that many believe it deserves representation at the National Assembly.
