S’Court Ruling Has Restored Order, Legitimacy In Our Party – Lagos PDP

Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has praised the judgment of the Supreme Court on the ongoing leadership crisis bedevilling the party.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Dr Christopher Odianarewo, the party said the ruling has restored order and brought a new dawn.

It said: “The recent pronouncement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria has drawn a decisive constitutional line in the ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While the judgment may have unsettled entrenched interests, it has, more importantly, restored clarity, legality, and institutional direction, three pillars without which no political party can endure.

“At the heart of the ruling lies a dual affirmation: first, the invalidation of the November 2025 Ibadan National Convention; and second, the unequivocal upholding of the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu and key members of the erstwhile National Working Committee. These decisions are not mere technicalities. They strike at the root of illegitimate authority and reinforce the supremacy of due process within party administration.

“The implication is profound and unavoidable: every structure, decision, and action emanating from the affected leadership blocs, including the controversial Abuja Convention of March 29, 2026, stands nullified, void, and without legal consequence. This is not a matter for debate or interpretation; it is the settled position of the highest court in the land.

“In moments such as this, institutions, not individuals, must prevail. It is therefore both constitutionally sound and politically responsible that the Board of Trustees (BoT), under the steady leadership of Senator Adolphus Wabara, PhD, has assumed interim control of the party in accordance with Section 32(5) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

This is not a power grab; it is a constitutional obligation activated by necessity to prevent a leadership vacuum and institutional collapse.

“The BoT’s intervention represents more than a stopgap measure. It is a stabilising force aimed at resetting the party on the path of legality, unity, and democratic integrity.

By invoking its constitutional mandate, the BoT has reaffirmed that the PDP is not a lawless platform but a structured political institution governed by rules, order, and accountability.

“Members and stakeholders of the PDP must, therefore, resist the temptation to dwell in factional sentiments or personal loyalties. The era of parallel authorities and conflicting directives has been decisively brought to an end.

“What remains is a singular, lawful pathway, one anchored in constitutionalism and guided by the BoT’s transitional leadership.

“The assurances given in the BoT’s April 30, 2026, press release are both timely and strategic. The planned convocation of an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to constitute an Interim National Working Committee signals a clear roadmap toward restoring full democratic governance within the party.

“This process is not only necessary but urgent, especially in view of the timelines imposed by the Electoral Act, 2026 and the approaching 2027 general elections.

“Let it be clearly stated: the PDP’s current situation, though challenging, is not terminal. Rather, it is a moment of reckoning, a necessary purge of procedural irregularities and leadership excesses that threatened the party’s coherence. Out of this turbulence lies an opportunity to rebuild stronger, more disciplined, and more united.

“The call by the BoT for reconciliation is not rhetorical. It is existential. A divided PDP cannot serve as a credible alternative to the ruling establishment, nor can it meet the expectations of millions of Nigerians who look to it as a vehicle for national redemption.

“The time for ego-driven politics has passed; what is required now is collective sacrifice and institutional loyalty.

“To party members across all levels, governors, legislators, state chapters, youth and women wings, and indeed the grassroots, this is the moment to rally behind the BoT-led leadership. Legitimacy has been clarified. Authority has been redefined. The path forward has been illuminated.

“History will not remember the noise of this crisis; it will remember how the PDP responded to it. With the Board of Trustees of the PDP now firmly in charge, guided by constitutional authority and a commitment to due process, the stage is set for the emergence of a new, credible, and democratically elected leadership.

“The PDP must rise, not as a fractured entity, but as a united force ready to reclaim its place in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.”
