Court Adjourns El-Rufai’s Bail Hearing To June

The Kaduna State High Court has postponed the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the first week of June 2026.

The presiding Judge, Justice Darius Khobo, made this declaration on Tuesday, April 21.

New Telegraph reports that the adjournment follows initial proceedings in the case, where legal arguments surrounding El-Rufai’s request for bail were expected to be heard.

The court did not immediately rule on the application, opting instead to fix a later date to allow for further consideration and procedural steps.

El-Rufai is currently standing trial on multiple charges instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The anti-corruption agency is prosecuting the case over allegations linked to financial misconduct and abuse of office during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.

While details of the charges are still being outlined in court, the case is part of a broader effort by authorities to investigate and prosecute alleged corruption involving public officials.

The proceedings are expected to include the presentation of evidence, witness testimonies, and legal arguments from both the prosecution and defence.

The postponement of the bail hearing means El-Rufai’s legal team will have to wait until June to argue for his release on bail, while the prosecution continues to press its case.

As the trial progresses, the court’s eventual decision on the bail application could shape the pace and direction of the proceedings, especially regarding whether the former governor will remain in custody or be released pending trial.
