Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly also known as Mr P, has responded to critics who questioned his decision to shift the date of his birthday celebration from November 18 to November 30.
New Telegraph had earlier reported that Mr P, one-half of the now-defunct P-Square duet, took to his social media page to announce the change in his birthday date.
He wrote on X, “I’m formally announcing it. I no longer celebrate my birthday on November 18. Please be aware that on that day, I will not be taking gifts or messages.
“November 30th will now be my birthday. He had previously stated, “This is a personal decision.”

Following his declaration, fans and followers alike have taken to his comment section to react to the development.
While some criticised him for such a decision, others do not see anything wrong with his announcement.
Responding to critics, Peter Okoye expressed shock in a post on Tuesday via his X account, saying “Una dey vex like say I cancel Christmas? Na the birthday date I move… no be your own, why e dey pain you?” he wrote.
“Even Jesus Christ December 25th date sef, people still dey debate am. Why cry more than the bereaved? Only in Nigeria,” he added.
According to him, the topic received a disproportionate amount of attention in comparison to other urgent national issues.
“Funny how my birthday date shift is causing more pain than Nigeria’s real problems,” he wrote, adding, “Insult no dey reduce success. Who don make am, don make am! Know that and know peace.”
