CIS Honors Abiodun Adeniji for Economic Contributions

The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers has conferred its prestigious Honorary Fellowship on Chief Abiodun Adeniji, the Group Chairman and Chief Executive of Jumbee Group, in recognition of his significant contributions to the Nigerian financial market and the broader economy.

Speaking during the conferment ceremony in Lagos, the 13th President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the CIS, Oluropo Dada, described the award as the peak of professional distinction within the institute, reserved for those whose service transcends the borders of the profession.

Commending the recipient’s career trajectory and national impact, Dada said, “This award is conferred sparingly on distinguished personalities whose exceptional service has advanced both the Institute and the Nigerian economy.

Honorary Fellowship is a rare distinction, bestowed exclusively on eminent figures with demonstrable national impact whose contributions have significantly moved the needle for our financial systems.”

In his acceptance remarks, Adeniji, a seasoned technocrat and chartered accountant, expressed his gratitude to the CIS leadership, noting his long-standing relationship with the institute. He praised the body’s role in maintaining market integrity but challenged the leadership to look beyond Nigeria’s borders.

“The CIS has attained a commendable global standing in its professional standards. However, to truly cement Nigeria’s place in the global capital market, the institute must now consider expanding its physical presence internationally by establishing offices in key financial hubs outside Nigeria,” he said.

Adeniji’s career spans over four decades of leadership in finance and manufacturing. Trained in the United Kingdom at Emile Woolf College of Accountancy and Gwent College of Higher Education, he qualified as a chartered accountant in 1983.

After beginning his career in London with King and Cruse, he returned to Nigeria in 1987 to join Ernst & Young. He later spent 12 years at Union Dicon Salt Plc, where he rose through the ranks to serve as Finance Director and eventually Managing Director.

Reflecting on the importance of professional ethics in national development, the new Fellow added, “Professional bodies like the CIS are the gatekeepers of our economic progress. My commitment to the growth and development of Nigeria’s financial system remains unwavering, and I am honoured to be recognised as a partner in this collective mission.”

The ceremony was attended by a high-profile audience of traditional rulers, business leaders, and past presidents of the Institute, who joined in paying tribute to Adeniji’s leadership and his role in driving economic stability through the Jumbee Group.
