Bring Back Defectors, Wike Tells PDP NWC

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has told members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to reach out to members who left the party to build a strong opposition party.

Wike, who spoke on Friday when he visited the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, said it requires a lot of hard work and sacrifice to move forward.

“Yes, we had a crisis, and we have almost come out of the crisis; it is not going to be easy,” he said, and expressed happiness that there are old hands song them to will guide them.

The Minister urged them to continue to bring out programmes that would continue to make the party popular.

“Yes, today we are not in government, but this is the main opposition party as far as this country is concerned.

“You cannot become a main opposition party without winning an election,” he said.

He called on them to bring back those who defected from the PDP, adding, “Send a powerful team to interact with them; most of them are afraid, whether they will get a ticket or not. You know what to do.”

Wike pledged his support and loyalty to the new party leadership and prayed that God would give them direction.

Responding, the National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, assured him that the party leadership will not disappoint Nigerians, and assured that the PDP will win elective positions in the 2027 general election.

“Your Excellency, you have done enough for this our great party, and each and every one that is fair to the party must attest to that,” Mohammed said.

He alleged vandalism of the party’s National Secretariat by the former NWC, but promised that the new leadership would correct that impression.
