Former lawmaker Senator Halliru Dauda Jika has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jika was affirmed as the party’s sole candidate during the ADC governorship and legislative primaries held on Friday, May 22, in Bauchi.
The exercise, supervised by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), also produced candidates for senatorial, House of Representatives and State Assembly positions.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the electoral committee, retired General Ishaya Bauka, said the process was conducted in line with the party’s constitutional provisions and electoral guidelines.
In his acceptance speech, Jika expressed gratitude to party stakeholders for endorsing his candidature.
He declared that the ADC was fully prepared to challenge for power in Bauchi State in 2027.
“I am a proud candidate backed by a formidable team of dedicated supporters and leaders.
“I can confidently say that no other contestant has the kind of united and committed team standing behind me today,” he said.
Jika previously represented Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2019 and 2023.
He also contested the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) before moving to the ADC ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Bauchi State ADC Chairman, Alhaji Shu’aibu Abdullahi Dankama, said the party remained confident of success in the elections, noting that its candidates were widely accepted by party members and supporters.
