The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) has endorsed Barry Balera Mwara, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
CONYL, which described itself as an umbrella body of youth groups across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, announced the endorsement in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja.
The group called Mwara “The most credible, competent, and visionary candidate” to represent the district in the Senate.
CONYL President-General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, said the coalition reached the decision “After a thorough assessment of the candidates and the prevailing needs of the people of Rivers South East.”
“Chief Barry Balera Mwara stands head and shoulders above the rest,” Ibem said in the statement.
He cited Mwara’s “exceptional leadership capacity, unwavering commitment to grassroots development, and a genuine passion for public service.”
The group said Mwara has a “track record of service, accessibility, and people-oriented leadership” and possesses the “experience, competence, and courage required” for the National Assembly.
CONYL described Mwara as a “youth leader and community builder” whose ambition is “driven not by personal gain but by a sincere desire to render selfless service.”
“The Senate at this critical period requires leaders with integrity, capacity, and a deep understanding of the challenges confronting their constituents,” the statement read. “Chief Barry Balera Mwara embodies these qualities.”
The coalition urged eligible voters in Rivers South-East to “rally behind” Mwara. It also asked political actors to “place the collective interest of the district above partisan considerations” and support him.
“The time has come for Rivers South East to speak with one voice and elect a leader who has demonstrated competence, character, and commitment to service,” Ibem said.
The statement was co-signed by Comrade Junaid Abubakar, Secretary General; Comrade Iniobong Sampson, Director of Mobilisation; and Comrade Adewale, Publicity Secretary.
Mwara will face candidates from other parties in the Rivers South-East race. The Independent National Electoral Commission has yet to release the final list of senatorial candidates for 2027.
Rivers South East covers Khana, Gokana, Tai, Eleme, Oyigbo, Opobo/Nkoro and Andoni local government areas.
