A political support group backing former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar has unveiled an extensive grassroots mobilisation structure aimed at securing victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The Salisiyya Support Group on Saturday announced the formation of a seven-member steering committee, three zonal coordinators, 20 local government coordinators, and representatives across all 557 polling units in Bauchi State.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the Mustapha Katagum Plaza in Bauchi State, the group’s leader, Hon. Salisu Sabo, said the initiative was established to strengthen support for Abubakar’s governorship ambition and ensure the APC records victory at all levels.
Sabo noted that despite his unsuccessful bid for the House of Representatives, he remained committed to the party and would continue to work for its success.
He pledged that members of the group would embark on intensive grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement campaigns across the state.
“I have demonstrated my loyalty to the party before, and I will continue to do so. Together with members of this group, we will canvass support across every part of Bauchi State to ensure victory for our party,” he said.
Addressing the gathering, Abubakar said his decision to seek a return to office was informed by his understanding of the challenges facing communities and his determination to improve the welfare of the people.
The former governor stressed the importance of policies that directly address poverty, unemployment, and other socio-economic challenges affecting citizens.
He expressed confidence that the support group would serve as a vehicle for community mobilisation and advocacy for policies that promote development and economic prosperity.
Abubakar also reaffirmed his commitment to constitutional democracy and good governance, describing the 1999 Constitution as the bedrock of Nigeria’s democratic system.
The event drew supporters, traditional and community leaders, as well as government officials, many of whom described the initiative as a positive step towards strengthening political participation and community development.
