Former Bauchi State Governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has explained that his decision to seek a return to office is driven by his understanding of the challenges facing communities across the state and his desire to improve the living conditions of the people.
Abubakar made the remarks during the inauguration of the Salisiyya Support Group at the Mustapha Katagum Plaza on Saturday in Bauchi, where he emphasised the need for people-oriented policies capable of improving citizens’ welfare and promoting economic growth.
According to him, his years of experience in public service have provided him with valuable insights into the needs of the people and the practical measures required to address poverty, unemployment, and other developmental challenges.
He stressed that effective leadership must focus on improving the welfare of citizens and ensuring that government policies translate into tangible benefits for the people.
Drawing from his experience in governance, Abubakar said he understood the challenges confronting communities and pledged continued support for programmes aimed at enhancing living standards and creating opportunities for economic advancement.
The former governor noted that the newly inaugurated support group would serve as a platform for mobilising citizens towards community development and advocacy for policies that positively impact the lives of the people.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to the principles enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, describing the Constitution as the foundation of democratic governance and national development.
Earlier, the leader of the Salisiyya Support Group, Hon. Salisu Sabo, said the formation of the group was aimed at mobilising support for the APC governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sabo stated that despite losing his bid for the House of Representatives, he remained loyal to the APC and was committed to ensuring the party’s success in all elective positions in Bauchi State and across the country.
“I have demonstrated my commitment before, and I will continue to do so. My group and I are determined to mobilise support for our great party in every nook and cranny of the state,” he said.
He disclosed that the group had established a seven-member steering committee, three zonal coordinators, 20 local government coordinators, and representatives in each of the 557 polling units across the state’s 20 local government areas.
The inauguration attracted supporters, community leaders, and government officials, who commended the initiative and expressed confidence in its objectives.
Some participants expressed optimism that the group would contribute significantly to efforts aimed at uplifting vulnerable members of society and promoting inclusive development.
