Former Senator Elisha Abbo has emerged as the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abbo, who represented Adamawa North in the 9th Senate, was cleared by the party’s national leadership on Saturday after a screening exercise. He was adopted as the consensus candidate.
Speaking after securing the ticket, Abbo pledged “purposeful leadership, economic revitalisation, youth empowerment, and improved infrastructure” for Adamawa.
He said his administration would prioritise inclusive governance, job creation, education, healthcare, and security.
Political analysts say Abbo’s emergence could reshape the state’s 2027 race. He remains an influential figure in Adamawa politics despite losing his Senate seat in 2023.
Abbo is expected to begin consultations and grassroots mobilisation across the state’s 21 local government areas in the coming weeks.
The Labour Party has not yet announced a running mate.
The development signals fresh realignments in Adamawa as parties position for the 2027 polls. The APC and PDP have yet to pick their candidates.
