Oyo State Fire Service has recovered the bodies of two passengers in a car that plunged into a river in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following torrential rain that overflowed the bridge.
The two bodies were recovered from the Ariyo River along Amuloko, in the Ona Ara Local Government Area of the state, on Friday, May 30.
Saturday Telegraph gathered that the incident involved a Toyota Avensis with an unknown registration number. The car lost control and ran into the river.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said that the two bodies have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the report, the vehicle swerved off the road and got submerged in the river. The rescue team immediately commenced the operations by applying all necessary rescue operational procedures and successfully recovered two casualties from the vehicle.
“The victims were subsequently handed over to the officers of the Nigeria Police Force led by ASP Adesuwa Sesan from Ogbere Target Police Station, Ibadan, for further necessary action,” the statement said.
