The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Samaila Adamu Burga, has said the crisis rocking the party at the national level has no effect on the validity of the party’s structure in the state.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday at the PDP Secretariat in Bauchi, Burga said the judgments delivered by the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court were limited to the dissolved National Working Committee and the controversial Ibadan convention.
He stressed that the congresses conducted across 26 states, including Bauchi State, remain valid and legally binding.
According to him, the congresses from ward to state levels were organised under the leadership of former acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum and subsequently ratified by the National Executive Committee in the presence of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP chairman insisted that no court judgment invalidated the Bauchi congresses, maintaining that the executives elected in 2024 remain the authentic leaders of the party in the state.
He cautioned individuals laying claim to party leadership positions outside constitutional procedures to stop such actions, saying only names recognised on the INEC portal are legitimate.
Burga further stated that the Bauchi chapter supports the decision of the PDP Board of Trustees to establish a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party after the expiration of the tenure of the former National Working Committee.
He added that the party was already making preparations for elections, including screening aspirants and planning for statewide campaigns.
