The remains of Mr Adesiyan Adegboye, the teacher shot dead during last Friday’s bandit attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, were on Friday committed to Mother Earth after a burial service at Ayegun Baptist Church in Ogbomoso.
Adegboye, 49, who was shot dead while trying to escape during the invasion, was buried at his residence in the Owolake area of Ogbomoso amidst sobbing and wailings by loved ones.
The late teacher, born on December 11, 1976, was among the victims of the attack carried out by the armed bandits who stormed Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esinele, at about 9:30 a.m. last Friday.
Seven teachers and 39 pupils/students were abducted during the simultaneous attacks on the three schools, throwing the affected communities into panic.
One of the abducted, a Mathematics teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was on Sunday decapitated when soldiers and other security personnel were closing in on the bandits in the Old Oyo National Park, where they held the victims hostage.
In response to the incident, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu visited the affected communities on Saturday and ordered the deployment of additional detectives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja to support ongoing rescue operations being carried out by the joint security team.
Police authorities said the reinforcement was aimed at ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted teachers and students while strengthening security across the area.
Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday signed Executive Order No. 1 of 2026 titled “Executive Order on the Regulation of Associations, Groups and Organisations Offering Security and Allied Services in Oyo State.”
The governor said the order was introduced to ensure that all groups involved in security-related activities operate within a clear legal and operational framework capable of supporting peace, order and the rule of law across the state.
Following the apprehension created by the abduction, some schools in Ogbomoso have temporarily shut down following rumours that bandits had infiltrated the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH). However, the management of the institution later dismissed the reports as false.
