The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has raised the alarm over the activities of fraudsters impersonating the Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, on various social media platforms.
In a statement issued yesterday by the Head of Corporate Communications and Media, Eniola Akinkuotu, the commission disclosed that no fewer than 15 fake accounts linked to the impersonation scheme had been uncovered across X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok.
According to the Commission, the fraudulent accounts were created by unscrupulous individuals with the intention of deceiving and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.
The NUPRC clarified that Mrs. Eyesan operates only one social media account, which is a verified LinkedIn page.
The statement partly reads: “The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission hereby issues this disclaimer, alerting the public to the activities of fraudulent individuals posing as the Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, on various social media platforms.”
