Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has dedicated the proceeds and gifts from his 60th birthday celebration to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across the state as part of efforts to support vulnerable citizens.
The Governor made this known during a Thanksgiving Mass held at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Makurdi, organised by the Deputy Governor, Dr Sam Ode, and the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Deborah Aber, to mark his diamond jubilee anniversary.
Governor Alia directed that all gifts and proceeds from the celebration be coordinated and distributed to IDP camps across the state, noting that displaced persons were in greater need of the support.
He reaffirmed his Administration’s commitment to serving the people of Benue and called on citizens to continue praying for his government.
He stated that the achievements recorded by his administration were a collective effort of the people of the state, while also expressing gratitude to God and his mother for their prayers and support over the years.
Governor Alia also appreciated the Deputy Governor and the SSG for organising the thanksgiving service and announced plans to celebrate both his 60th birthday and the 50th anniversary of Benue State in June.
Deputy Governor Sam Ode commended Governor Alia for assembling a credible team to drive his administration’s vision of good governance in the state.
In their remarks, officiating priests, Reverend Father Simeon Iber and Reverend Father Paul Tser, described the Governor’s attainment of 60 years as a moment for reflection, wisdom and renewed dedication to service.
