The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has endorsed Senator Victor Umeh for a second term, declaring there is “No vacancy” in the Anambra Central Senatorial seat in 2027.
COSEYL, the apex socio-political youth group in the South East, explained that the endorsement was a result of its review of Umeh’s performance since entering the Red Chamber in 2023.
The youth group made this explanation in a statement jointly signed and forwarded to journalists in Abuja on Sunday by Comrade Goodluck Ibem, President General and Comrade Okey Nwaoru, Publicity Secretary.
The group described Senator Umeh’s tenure as marked by purposeful leadership, visible constituency projects, and consistent advocacy for Ndigbo.
“Senator Victor Umeh has performed beyond expectations in all sectors of representation, setting a record that is unprecedented since the creation of Anambra Central Senatorial District,” it said.
The group pointed to what it called Umeh’s people-oriented projects and active legislative interventions, arguing that he has distinguished himself as a leader who puts constituents above party and personal interests.
COSEYL also highlighted Umeh’s role as a vocal voice on national issues affecting the South East, saying: “he has remained consistent, vocal, and courageous in speaking against injustice and in defending matters affecting the Igbo nation and the entire South East region.”
“His voice at the Red Chamber continues to command respect and inspire confidence among Ndi Anambra and Nigerians at large.”
On that basis, the group urged all political parties in Anambra Central to adopt Umeh as a consensus candidate for the next Senatorial election to ensure continuity of what it described as quality representation.
COSEYL framed the call as a matter of performance over party loyalty, noting: “Leadership should be evaluated based on performance, competence, integrity, and commitment to the people, and not merely on political party affiliations.”
“There is absolutely no vacancy in Anambra Central Senatorial District. The people have witnessed true representation under Senator Victor Umeh, and the overwhelming support he continues to enjoy across communities reflects his impactful service,” the group said.
The youth leaders urged residents across party lines, religions, and social groups to rally behind Umeh’s re-election bid, saying a performing leader deserves continuity and broad support.
