PDP Supporters Will Secure Oyebanji, Tinubu Re-Election

Former Ekiti State Governor and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ayodele Fayose, has reaffirmed his support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second-term bid ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election in the state.

Fayose, who spoke at Ado-Ekiti, said the PDP members, who contributed to the victories of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji in previous elections would again support them in the forthcoming governorship poll and the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the grand finale of Oyebanji’s campaign tour ahead of the election, the former Governor said although he remains a PDP member, he chose to support Oyebanji because of what he described as the governor’s performance and inclusive style of leadership.

He added that the political group known as “Iruwa Ogiri wa” remained firmly behind Oyebanji and was committed to ensuring the continuation of his administration beyond 2026.

He said, “It’s the votes of the strangers (PDP) that brought Tinubu into power then. It’s our votes that brought the current governor in and will still bring him in again.

“We, the Iruwa Ogiriwa, are with you and we are going to stand by you. The fact remains that something has to be done. Show me your opposition either in town or elsewhere.

“I’m not a member of APC, I’m a member of PDP, but we want to assure you that this good work must continue.

“We therefore commend Governor Abayomi Oyebanji to remain in office till 2030. On behalf of all the former governors, we commend and identify with Governor BAO to remain in office till the year 2030.”

Governor Oyebanji, in his remarks, promised to deliver more developmental projects if re-elected, noting that several infrastructural plans were still awaiting execution.

He also described the Ekiti governorship election as significant for President Tinubu’s political strength ahead of 2027, adding that the target of securing 500,000 votes was aimed at demonstrating that the state remained firmly behind the President’s re-election ambition.
