FCMB Group Strengthens Leadership with New Appointment

FCMB Group Plc has announced the appointment of Adepeju Adebajo as an Independent Non-Executive Director. The appointment follows formal approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement issued by the FCMB Group on Thursday. Adebajo, a seasoned executive with over three decades of experience, joins the Board at a pivotal time as the diversified financial services group seeks to expand its footprint in the Nigerian market.

Her career spans renewable energy, agriculture, finance, and consulting, making her one of the most versatile leaders in the Sub-Saharan African corporate space.

The Board of Directors welcomed the new appointee, noting that her arrival aligns with the Group’s long-term vision.

“Her wealth of experience in business transformation, strategy development, operational excellence, and ESG implementation will strengthen FCMB Group’s leadership and support its continued growth,” the statement read.

Adebajo’s professional pedigree is underpinned by an impressive academic background, including degrees from Harvard Business School and Imperial College London. She has previously held chief executive roles at Lafarge Africa (Cement), Lumos Nigeria, and Mouka Limited, while also serving as the Commissioner for Agriculture in Ogun State.

The Group emphasised that the appointment is a deliberate step toward modernising the company’s leadership outlook.

“This appointment reflects the Group’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a robust governance framework and building a leadership team that supports innovation, inclusivity, and responsible practices,” the statement added.

Beyond her corporate achievements, Adebajo is a recognised authority on climate change and sustainability. She is the founder of the Climate Governance Initiative Nigeria and serves on the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Climate and Nature Governance.

Reflecting on the value she brings to the financial institution, the Board highlighted her track record in international markets.

“Having supported clients in London, Europe, and the USA with the Boston Consulting Group and Citibank, Adebajo brings a global perspective that is essential for our diversified interests in banking, investment management, and consumer finance.”

Adebajo currently serves as the Chair of the Board of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and holds several international board seats, including Ibstock Plc in the UK. Her appointment to FCMB Group is expected to further drive the company’s commitment to the energy transition and female mentorship within the Nigerian financial sector.
