NANS Commends Ogun JCC Election

The Students Union Presidents under the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun State Joint Campus Committee has commended the outcome of its election in the state.

It also celebrated Comrade Olabode Faruq for his victory during the election.

The union said the emergence of Faruq as the new President of the association is a true reflection of the collective will of the students.

The statement read, “This election, held under tense and challenging circumstances, has ultimately reaffirmed the enduring strength of student democracy and the collective resolve of Nigerian students in Ogun State to defend their mandate.

“The events leading up to the convention were marked by attempts to disrupt the process, and constitutional concerns that necessitated intervention and a transition process.

“During the convention itself, stakeholders observed with concern certain developments, including actions perceived as attempts to truncate or unduly influence the electoral process.

“These moments created tension and uncertainty among delegates. However, the resilience, courage, and unity displayed by students ensured that the process was not derailed.

“We particularly commend the delegates, comprising Students’ Union Government Presidents from across institutions, who stood firm in upholding democratic principles.

“Their commitment to due process, despite pressure and distractions, is a testament to the maturity and determination of student leaders in Ogun State.

“We therefore hail the emergence of Comrade Olabode Faruq (SUCCESS), who secured victory through a transparent voting process, and securing seven out of the 13 votes cast to emerge victorious.

“His emergence is a true reflection of the collective will of the students which represents not just a personal mandate, but a renewed hope for stability, unity, and progressive leadership within NANS Ogun JCC.

“This election has clearly demonstrated that student unionism remains a powerful and independent force, one that cannot be easily undermined by external interference or internal divisions.

“It marks the beginning of a new chapter of accountability, inclusiveness, and a shared vision for the advancement of students’ welfare and educational development across Ogun State.

“As stakeholders, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the newly elected leadership in delivering on its mandate.

“We urge all aggrieved parties, if any, to embrace peace and work collectively in the interest of the association. “The task ahead requires unity, cooperation, and a sustained dedication to rebuilding trust and strengthening the institution.

“To conclude, the 2026 NANS Ogun JCC election will remain a historic reference point, an election that overcame challenges and emerged as a symbol of resilience and hope for the future of student unionism.”
