A coalition of Benue State pensioners and commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Okada riders, has presented the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form they jointly purchased to Governor Hyacinth Alia to re-contest next year’s governorship election.
The pensioners were led by their state chairman, Mr Michael Vembe, while the motorcyclists were led by their chairman, Mr Aha Terfa. Receiving the forms at Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia said he was thrilled by the gesture.
He added that he is determined to continue “turning around the fortunes of the state until Benue regains its true position amongst states in the country.”
“I am aware that a reformer must face all forms of attacks, insults and deliberate efforts to deter. I am ready to take all the insults and face gang-ups, but would not be deterred,” the governor said.
Alia also announced plans to revitalise Taraku Mills, describing the company as a critical component of his administration’s economic strategy.
He said the move is aimed at restoring industrial activity, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening the state’s agro-based economy.
He noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to reposition Benue State for sustainable growth, stressing that his government remains committed to policies that directly impact the lives of the majority of citizens.
