On Tuesday, three members of the House of Representatives announced their defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmakers are Thaddeus Attah (Eti-Osa federal constituency, Lagos), Usman Zubairu (Birnin Gwari/Giwa federal constituency, Kaduna), and Sani Noma (Argungu/Augie federal constituency, Kebbi).

Attah left the Labour Party (LP), Zubairu defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Noma moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC.

In separate political movements recorded during plenary, other lawmakers also changed party affiliations across different states.

In Niger state, Abubakar Buba (Chanchaga federal constituency) and Ibrahim Mohammed (Bunza/Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo federal constituency, Kebbi) left the PDP for the APC.

Similarly, Mudashiru Alani (Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa federal constituency, Osun) and Adetunji Olusoji (Odo-Otin/Ifelodun/Boripe federal constituency) both defected from the PDP to the Accord Party.

In Taraba state, David Fuoh (Sardauna/Kurmi/Gashaka federal constituency) moved from the APC to the PDP.

The Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, announced the defections on the floor of the House during plenary.

The lawmakers attributed their decisions to internal crises within their former political parties.

Following the announcements, the House adjourned sitting to Wednesday in honour of the late Muhammad Hassan, who represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa federal constituency of Kano state. He died on April 10 after a prolonged illness.
