Nigeria Receives 20-Year ICAO Aviation Master Plan

Nigeria has received a 20-year Civil Aviation Master Plan from the International Civil Aviation Organization, in a move seen as a major step toward repositioning the country’s aviation sector for sustainable growth.

According to a statement made available to The PUNCH by the minister’s media aide Tunde Moshood, the document was presented to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium in Marrakech, Morocco, on Tuesday.

Keyamo, who described the plan as a turning point, also said it provides a clear roadmap for the industry’s transformation over the next two decades.

He noted, “This Civil Aviation Master Plan represents a bold and structured pathway for the transformation of Nigeria’s aviation industry over the next two decades.”

According to the statement, the CAMP, which spans 2025 to 2045, is aligned with Nigeria’s National Development Plan and is expected to support economic growth, connectivity, and infrastructure development.

“It is deliberately aligned with our National Development Plan to ensure aviation continues to support economic growth and national integration,” said the minister, stressing the importance of human capital development, noting that the future of the sector depends largely on a skilled workforce.

The plan focuses on modernising airport infrastructure, deploying advanced technologies, and strengthening safety systems in line with global standards.

“We recognise that without the right people, no level of infrastructure or investment can deliver the desired outcomes in this industry,” Keyamo stated. “We are looking at modernising our airports to world-class standards and deploying advanced technologies to improve efficiency and service delivery,”.

He added that Nigeria remains committed to maintaining a zero-fatality aviation environment through strict compliance with international safety regulations.
