The Nasarawa State Accountant-General, Ahmed Musa Mohammed, has formally resigned his position and joined the gubernatorial race of the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
Musa Mohammed, a one-time Speaker of the state House of Assembly, formerly declared his intention to run for the gubernatorial position of the state at a rally in Lafia on Monday.
He said his decision followed persistent clarion calls from many well-meaning individuals, stakeholders, friends, associates and groups across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders during the rally, a former lawmaker in the state, Anthony Obande, said Ahmed Musa Mohamed possesses the leadership ability to succeed Governor Abdullahi Sule, having worked with him closely for the past years.
He said working closely with the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Sule, and as a disciplined politician, Mohammed is well-positioned to sustain the legacies of the incumbent governor.
Speaking at the event, Ahmed Musa Mohammed decided to heed the clarion calls by the people of the state, hence his decision to join the gubernatorial race.
He commended Governor Sule for appointing him to serve the state as the accountant general, a position he said gave him the opportunity of learning the art of governance.
He said that his decision to join the governorship race was born out of pressure from the stakeholders in the State who have seen capacity and leadership skills in him prompted his decision to sacrifice his office to contest the governor’s seat come 2027.
” I have resigned my appointment as Accountant General for your sake to join the race. For the past three years, you have been calling me to come out and contest for the position of the Governor of Nasarawa State.
” For your own sake and fir the sake of the sake of the people of Nasarawa state, I have accepted to contest for the governorship position of the state.
“I would like to inform you that for your own sake and for the sake of the people of Nasarawa State, I have accepted your call to contest,” he said.
Promising to sustain the legacies of Governor Abdullahi Sule, Musa Mohammed also promised to always be guided by the governor’s many examples and track record if he eventually becomes the governor of the state in 2027.
