‘I Don’t Need AMVCA To Validate My Talent’- Yul Edochie

Popular Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has said he can demonstrate his acting prowess without an Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA).

Edochie disclosed that he never won an AMVCA during an interview with the Honest Bunch podcast.

He maintained that his worth in the film industry cannot be determined by awards chosen by a select few.

Edochie stated that he is very confident in his acting skills and that no other performers have yet to duplicate some of the performances he gave four or six years ago.

The actor defined himself as one of the best in the business when talking about his position in Nollywood, adding that he refrains from proclaiming himself the best out of respect for his father who is also a seasoned actor, Pete Edochie.

According to Edochie, he doesn’t have any problems with the AMVCA organisers and doesn’t feel pressured by their decisions.

He claimed that because he doesn’t care about their choices, he has never voiced complaints online about not receiving nominations or prizes.

The actor stated that giving excellent performances in each movie role is still his major priority.

He continued by saying that he always gives it his all and lets spectators and critics make the final decision.

Edochie claimed that his emphasis on professional advancement and self-improvement is unaffected by the opinions or personal attitudes of others.

Edochie highlighted that God, his work, and his audience, rather than award organizations, determine his value.

He said: “Performances that I have dropped four, five, six years ago no actor has been able to replicate it till date. I am one of the greatest. So I will not wait until AMVCA calls me. Call anybody you want to call. I do not have any problem with them. Have you seen me rant on social media before?

“A group of people gathered to say this is who they are giving to. I am not bothered. Anywhere I find myself, I will keep doing well. Any movie you keep me, I will do my best and drop a fantastic performance.

“Your like or attitude towards me does not concern me. I have fans from all over the world. My worth is not determined by you. My worth is determined by God. It is determined by the amount of work that I put in and the viewers.”
