The youths in Ijesha South Federal Constituency, Osun State, have intensified calls to cede the Senatorial ticket for the Osun East Senatorial district to the federal Constituency.
The agitating youths said the calls were necessary to ensure balance and equal distribution of political posts in the district.
According to the youths, the Ijesha South Federal Constituency has been “shut out” of the senatorial seat since 1983, while other parts—particularly Ife and Ijesa North—have dominated the position.
Speaking with journalists in Osogbo, a political advocate and youth mobiliser, Arakunrin Tobiloba Famurewa, argued that the next senator for Osun East should come from Ijesa South. Famurewa described the zoning arrangement in Osun East as an “imbalance” that should be corrected to ensure fairness and equity.
He noted that Ife Federal Constituency has held the senatorial seat multiple times since 1983, and Ijesa North has also benefited, leaving Ijesa South behind.
He said giving the seat to Ijesa South would ensure equal representation within Osun East and help promote the interests of the people at the national level.
Famurewa insisted that Ijesa South has the capacity and commitment to deliver effective representation, adding that the constituency is ready to represent the aspirations of its people.
