Following a recent attack on a student in Gadau, the Bauchi State Police Command has reassured residents and students of enhanced security measures across off-campus areas.
This is contained in a press release issued by the PPRO SP Nafi’u Habib.
According to the statement, the victim, Maryam Yakini, a student of Sa’adu Zungur University, was attacked on April 23 by an unidentified suspect and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Azare, where she is said to be responding.
The Police Command debunked rumours of her death circulating online, describing them as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary panic.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said the Command would strengthen its Safe School Initiative to improve security around student residences. He also cautioned students against staying or studying in isolated areas, particularly at night.
The police urged the public to report suspicious activities and provided emergency contact lines to support ongoing efforts to ensure safety.
